"The proposed changes expanding the CTAF radius from 10nm to 20nm will adversely impact the safe operation of Hang Gliders and Paragliders without improving the operational safety of other aircraft flying in Class G under VFR conditions. Changing radio frequencies whilst in flight is hazardous (impossible in some situations), which may result in a Pilot losing control of the aircraft."
This will result in every pilot having to carry and use VHF when flying from any of the clubs sites.
There are a number of reasons that make this impractical for our members especially HG pilots who cannot (or find it very difficult) to change frequencies when airborne. A low airtime Pilot soaring Beechmont in thermic conditions, would be best concentrating in 'controlling' their aircraft than trying to make a radio call to another aircraft flying under VFR.
If free flying pilots all had one go at a VHF radio call one after the other on the same day, to the joy of all aircraft listening from Rainbow Beach to Gold Coast , including international airports Brisbane West at Toowoomba, Brisbane, and Gold Coast, and all other airports including Maroochydore, Caloundra, Archerfield and all other airports and aircraft, perhaps the radio chatter would demonstrate issues of proposal that would be insanity for air traffic control. Can you help with having your say, and hopefully common sense prevails.
